Arsenal vs. Napoli

Arsenal saw one of its best wins of the season on April the 11th when Napoli came to the Emirates in the Europa League semi finals. During this fixture it was not the usual fowards who scored but the midfielders. Ramsey scored the opening goal in the 14th minute with a easy tap in off of an assist from Alexandre Lacazette.

The lead was extended just about 10 minutes later with Torreira who had his shot from the edge of the box deflected and eventually skip by Napoli’s goalie. On some match reports however, they have Koulibay listed as scoring an own goal instead of giving the credit to Torreira.

The Outlook for Arsenal

With roughly one month left of league play Arsenal is in a tight race for a champions league spot. Only 3 points seperate Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United in the premier league standings.

However, Arsenal has played one game less then all the teams near them on the table. A win in there next game can move the gunners up to 3rd place, 2 points clear of Tottenham. Arsenal’s schedule coming up is no where near impossible, with matches against teams the likes of Everton, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Crystal Palace. The only match that could be considered hard is against the current 7th place team, Wolverhampton Wanders. That match will take place on Monday, April 15th.

Arsenal vs. Stade Rennes, The Second Leg

After a letdown in the first leg of the Europa League, Arsenal bounced back with a 3-0 victory at the Emirates over Stade Rennes (4-3 Agg) to advance to the next stage in the Europa league. There were just five minutes on the clock when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a well placed goal into the near side corner from a cross by Aaron Ramsey. Later on in the 71st minute, Aubameyang netted another goal which would prove to be the series clinching goal.

This friday the gunners will be put into the quarter-final draw for the Europa League, alongside Chelsea, Napoli, Valencia, Benfica, Frankfurt, Slavia Prague and Villarreal. While there is still a long way to go in the tournament, the winner gets an automatic bid to the champions league in the following season. Arsenal will take on Newcastle United at Emirates on April 1. The next round of the Europa League will be played on April 11 and 18.

Arsenal vs. Stade Rennes

On the seventh of March 2019, Arsenal took on Stade Rennes in the first leg of the Europa league round of sixteen. The matchup took place at the home venue of Stade Rennes in Roazhon Park, France. It was a hot start for the gunners with Alex Iwobi scored qucikly in the third minute to give his team a one to nill advantage.

The dismissal of Sokratis Papastathopoulos left Arsenal down a man for the rest of the match. Just seconds after Papastathopoulos was handed the red card, Benjamin Bourigeaud scored a goal with such shear power and accuracy that it seemed to leave Arsenal in confusion against a side with an abudence of energy.

The tides of the match turned to the favor of Stade Rennes when a shot rang of the hip of Nacho Monreal into his own net. Finally at the closing minutes of the game, Ismaila Sarr headed home a well deserved third goal which put the game to bed. In the end, Arsenal only fell 3-1 which means they still have a chance to advance if they play well enough at the Emirates in the second leg of the match.

Ozil scoring while wearing the Adidas Predator Cleats

After being named to the starting 12 for the first time since the 29th of January, Mesut Ozil made an instant impact on the pitch during the match against AFC Bournemouth. The German national scored a singular goal in the fourth minute, along with an assist to Mkhitaryan in the 27th minute. Koscienly, Aubameyang, and Lacazette also helped with goals of their own. The performance by Ozil made many fans start to wonder why Ozil is not starting games more often.

During the 2018-2019 campaign so far, Ozil has missed more games then he has started for Arsenal. This is problematic considering that Ozil is the clubs highest paid and most skilled player. This past week Ozil sent out a tweet quoting former player Dennis Bergkamp, “When you start supporting a football club, you don’t support it because of the trophies, or a player, or history, you support it because you found yourself somewhere there; found a place where you belong.” The tweet was directed at Emery to let him know that he (Ozil) was not planning on leaving, or giving up on the team any time soon.
